Sabine Parish Sheriff Patrol Shift Supervisors and the Marine Unit now have AEDs on board for emergency situations.

An AED (automated external defibrillator) is a portable medical device that analyzes the heart’s rhythm and delivers an electrical shock during sudden cardiac arrest to help re-establish a normal heartbeat.

Sheriff Aaron Mitchell said, “…these AEDs will be invaluable when deputies are the first to arrive at the scene of a medical emergency. Having this equipment readily available allows our deputies to provide potentially life-saving assistance while waiting for EMS to arrive.”

All Sheriff Deputies receive training bi-annually in First-Aid, CPR, and AED operation through our local ambulance service.

AEDs are also currently placed at the Sabine Parish Detention Center and Women’s Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office recently purchased these devices from the Stryker Corporation.
